The state educational institution the average educational school №1 with profound studying of English language was based in 1957 and since the moment It has its status. Since 1963 the school is associated by UNESCO. In 1997 the pedagogical collective of school became the winner of city competition of pedagogical achievements in a nomination «School of year». In 1983 school was awarded by UNESCO medal for fruitful participation in the international projects and the big contribution to a development of education, sciences and cultures.
In 2004 the National board of the Russian Federation «Network of the associated schools of UNESCO» has confirmed the director of our school Vlasova T.V. as the coordinator of project ASU in region «Baltica – Sever», and the school became Regional Coordination Center "Baltica – Sever" (further RCC) .
The primary goal of RCC is coordination and the work organization under UNESCO projects at schools of St.-Petersburg and region
In "Baltica-Sever" region the project «Network of the associated schools of UNESCO» includes 14 schools of St.-Petersburg, 2 colleges, as school of №39 cities of Vorkuta, a grammar school of the city of Labytnangi, school of №10 cities of Kaliningrad.
RCC successfully functions, carrying out following problems:
- Information distribution to region about United Nations activity, UNESCO and projects of the Associated schools UNESCO (PAS);
- Gathering and distribution of the information on realization PAS in region; preparation of the report on activity RCC;
- Rendering of the scientifically-methodical help in the organization, preparation and carrying out of regional and inter-regional conferences, seminars and other actions for activity subjects PAS;
- Creation of regional projects on the basis of the international projects;
- Representation of regional schools-participants PAS at the national Council;
- Interaction with state and public organizations in regions at RF and abroad;
- Coordination of cooperation with higher educational institutions – Academy of Postdegree Pedagogical education of St.-Petersburg within the limits of realization of lines of activity PAS;
- The organization of system of training in directions PAS in the region;
- Cooperation coordination under the international projects directed on joint realization of directions PAS;
- A role of the United Nations and UNESCO in world community development;
- Formation, as one of the ways of formation of a society steady Developments;
- A preservation of peace and human rights.
The regional coordination center distributes of information materials among the associated schools of UNESCO for possibility of their participation in the international days, years, decades of the United Nations.

Still, without being the Regional Coordination Center of UNESCO, i.e. since 1989, the school took part in work on «the Baltic project». Teachers and pupils of various educational institutions from the countries located on coast of Baltic sea were engaged in the project.
In frameworks of "the Baltic project», offered by UNESCO which main objective was to work out of the actions directed on preservation of flora and fauna of Baltic sea, the school project – «Chemical monitoring of environment» has been developed.
Teachers and pupils of school, working over the given project, have mastered and even have developed own techniques by a complex estimation of a state of environment.
Following researches have been executed:
- Chemical monitoring of air;
- Chemical monitoring of natural waters;
- Chemical monitoring of acid deposits;
- Chemical monitoring of structure of soil;
- Chemical monitoring of the maintenance of a dust and other mechanical impurity in school air;
- Chemical monitoring of a household waste;
- Chemical monitoring of exhaust gases of motor transport.
In the course of discussion of results pupils have come to a conclusion that environment is very vulnerable, and pollution, even insignificant, for example, in air, lead to irreversible consequences in soil, water etc.
Results of work have been presented at the International conference in the city of Kotka (Finland), and also on 1 International ecological Olympic Games of UNESCO where the school command took the 1 place.
Teachers of school took part in V International conference IAELPS «the State of environment of Northwest region» on which have presented results of work on the project. Later these results have been published in the collection.

In 2000-2003 the school pas headed the work of specialized schools and the schools associated by UNESCO, under the project «Brilliant St.-Petersburg». Teachers and pupils of school were organizers and coordinators of this project, witch purpose was the attraction of attention of schoolboys and students to historical and cultural space of our city. There was developed the program including five work directions:
- Literary-of regional studies - «My Petersburg unique»;
- International - «All flags of the world on a visit to us»;
- Culture ecology – «I nice live in a city»;
- Musical – «city Rhythms I feel heart» »
- Art criticism – «Many-sided Petersburg».
The school became the initiator of creation of Avenue of the associated schools of UNESCO Region «Baltic – the North» which has been landed on the prospectus The Unsubdued.
The festival «Brilliant St.-Petersburg» became a result of the spent work, in which victorious teams of schools and colleges have taken part our city, associated UNESCO, and also schools Moscow area. Besides, the book «Brilliant St.-Petersburg» has been published, where the best works of pupils in all directions of the project have entered.

Since 2003, the school works within the limits of the project «Mondialogo», created in common UNESCO and company "DaimlerChrysler". In the past educational year our school has continued work under project Mondialogo, which is the new international initiative directed on assistance to dialogue between cultures. With the help подпроекта «Mondialogo School Contest »(school competition) the organizer hope that dialogue between civilizations and cultures will promote realization the general declaration of UNESCO on a cultural variety, will create asis for mutual understanding, respect and, first of all, tolerance.
Project Mondialogo means pair work of commands from the different the world countries on the chosen subjects with use of the modern information-communication technologies and the Internet, communications it is carried out in English.
In 2003 educational year the school became the student of this project. A command schools has taken part in work of total conference on the project, passing in Barcelona (Spain). Result of work of teachers and pupils of school there was a film «History of the Australian girl», created in common our command and command-partner from Australia.
In 2007-2008 Turkish school Private became the partner of our school Fatih High School from city Izmir, Turkey. A theme chosen in common, - «Influence of global warming and climate change on water supply Region ».
During work on the project pupils of school investigated influence global warming and climate change on water resources of ours Region, namely:
- Flooding in St.-Petersburg (result – article in English Language with illustrations);
- Influence of global warming on region agriculture (Article in English);
- Pluses and minuses of global warming in Russia (article);
- Water resources of St.-Petersburg, water supply (article);
- Influence of global warming on monuments of SPb (article with illustrations);
At direct participation of the director of "Water canal" has been organized Excursion to Southwest treatment facilities. After visiting treatment facilities pupils had been created computer presentation. The work final stage was the comparative analysis received results with results of the Turkish school, which pupils also studied influence of global warming and climate change in them Region.
From more, than 3000 commands have been chosen 25 steams (50 schools) in quality Finalists. And our school among them. All finalists have received the invitation On a symposium to Beijing which has taken place in the end of September 2009 Year. The symposium culmination was rewarding of finalists and choice of winners. Our school has won a special prize «Innovations in a sustainable development» also became the fourth in the world.

Since 2004-2005, the school has got into gear under the international project " the Great Volga River Way: Association of the seas (Baltic, Caspian and Black) with a view of formations for a sustainable development and preservation of the World heritage by means of information-communication tegnologis " the purposes of which was:
- An interrelation establishment between the World heritage and steady development in support of quality of formation;
- A choice of toolkit for use information-communication technologies with a view of formation;
- Spread of knowledge about Great Volzhsk a river way among schoolboys and students;
- Association human, cultural and scientific and technical potential for the decision of global problems of the present;
- Working out of techniques of integration of the World heritage and steady developments by means of information technology.
Almost all pupils have been involved in participation in the project and teachers of school, workers of scientific and cultural establishments of St.-Petersburg, Parents, representatives of the non-governmental organizations. It was carried out (through the Internet) information interchange with participants of the project from St.-Petersburg and other cities and the world countries.
In the work the school cooperated with school of foreign languages Krynitsa, Poland; high school at university Vaterlou, the State of Iowa, the USA; high school of Ajzeput, Latvia; with schools and the colleges of St.-Petersburg associated by UNESCO.
Results of research work have been presented on the thematic conferences at which carrying out the computer were used technologies. After accumulation and generalization of corresponding knowledge the international adjusting seminar on the basis of school has been held № 1 where, working on workshops «Alternative civilizations», «Whether it is easy to be Russian», «A sustainable development Zone»,«a youth Role in preservation natural and a cultural heritage», has been developed the project «Northwest region – a sustainable development zone» and the post card «the Reference to children of a planet» is written.
The given project was included into the four of the best projects among 16 countries the world – participants of the final international conference which were passing in May, 2007 in Yaroslavl.

Now pupils and pupils of school finish work on the project «Landshaftno-park zones of palaces and manors of St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region». We managed to involve in this work all associated Schools of Northwest region.
During work on the project updating of the educational has been spent Programs in all subjects and educational work with 1 on 11 classes according to the purposes, problems and a substantial part of the project. Teachers schools have been developed special excursion programs for each parallel, the fullest acquaintance became a consequence of that pupils with cultural space of St.-Petersburg and Leningrad areas. During work under the project the best samples of the family were studied cultures XVIII-XIX centuries, and also have been spent scientifically-practical conferences on a theme «Landshaftno-park zones of palaces and manors St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region», it is prepared and spent virtual excursion on the Peterhof road in English; competitions of transfers of products of Russian poets and the writers, devoted to landscape gardening ensembles of a city on English language; literary-musical compositions «the dogrose Is turned a waltz whirlwind noisy …» and In a garden the scarlet blossomed, stood dark lindens of avenue … »
Ball of the associated schools of UNESCO became the brightest event, which passed in a palace Beloselsky-Belozersky and has been organized the director of our school.
Pupils of our school had been created the project of gardening school site. Together with teachers and parents pupils have landed beds and look after now them.
Results of research work have been presented on the thematic internet book creation «Landshaftno-park becomes a result of all work under the project Zones of palaces and manors of St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region », Where the best works of all participants of the project will enter.

The international activity of school allows pupils becomes winners of regional, All-Russia and international competitions and the Olympic Games.
Our pupils were winners in following competitions and the Olympic Games:
- The international competition «Mondialogo» - a special prize, 4 place in the world;
- The international competition «Pushkin Prizes» – 2 Winners;
- The international detsko-youthful scientifically-practical conference – 9 winners and 7 students;
- The international Olympic Games «Russia and Belorus – a historical generality» - 1 winner and 1 student;
- Lihachevsky readings – 1 winner and 7 students;
- Competition of orators – 2 winners and 5 prize-winners;
- The All-Russia Olympic Games on geography – 1 winner;
- The All-Russia Olympic Games on English language – 1 place in 2009 And 1 place in 2010;
- The All-Russia Olympic Games under the literature – 2 winners.
